"I thought we played with a lot of passion and energy," Utah head coach
Brian Holman said. "For the most part I thought we played a good lacrosse game at times. We're learning about the many different facets of the game and I think that's the big thing. I thought we had mental lapses at times that really hurt us, but those are things that can be fixed. We're going to watch the film and head home and we're going to work next week to be more consistent in practice. I thought our inconsistency today was reflective of our practice week. We'll work on cleaning up more of the in-game situations that are hurting us, being aware of time and where we are on the field. I'm proud of the guys, it's been a great trip East. This is a legendary team and facility and I thought we handled that really well. We weren't intimidated at all."
The Utes trailed 3-2 after the first quarter with the Stout brothers teaming up for the first goal of the day and Josh added an unassisted goal later in the period. Cantlon added a goal early in the second quarter to help Utah keep pace with Hofstra before Stout's three-goal flurry for his third hat trick in as many games for the Utes. Utah trailed 7-6 at halftime.
The first three goals after halftime were scored by Hofstra, giving the Pride a 10-6 lead before Sexton scored his first goal of the day with an assist from Cantlon with less than a minute left in the third period.
The teams combined for seven goals in the final quarter and Hofstra led by as many as five goals in the final frame. Cantlon, Cambere and Wilson all scored goals in the fourth quarter for the Utes.
Utah returns to the field next weekend, traveling to Colorado for games against Denver (Feb. 23) and Air Force (Feb. 24).
