SEATTLE – Indoor championship weekend is here and the Utes kicked off their weekend at the 2019 MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships in Seattle, Wash. The highlight of the day was an all-freshman distance medley relay squad that captured a second-place finish in their heat and seventh-place finish overall.Â
Â
"It was an all-freshman squad and it was an awesome and great job by them. 11:26.09 and I think that is the fastest time we have ever ran here at the MPSF," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "I am really impressed with those guys and they just gave a great effort and I am really proud of them."Â
Â
Making up the all-freshman squad was
Sophie Ryan,
Lauren O'Banion,
Brooke Manson and
Cara Woolnough. This squad finished the race in a season's best time of 11:26.09.
Â
In the 60-meter dash preliminaries, freshman
Taylor Watson recorded the best time for the Utes as she earned a third-place finish in her heat with a time of 7.68. Watson currently holds the school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.66. Senior
Raynee Helm-Wheelock also competed and finished in third-place in her heat with a personal best time of 7.72 which ties her for third on the all-time list at Utah.Â
Â
"That 7.72 was the school record up until about two or three years ago, so I was just really proud of her," Kepler explained. "She's a senior and has been a staple for us in our program for a long time and she just kept developing and it's great to see her with a PR in her final 60-meter race of her career."Â
Â
Freshman Maya Lebar posted the best time for Utah in the 200-meter event. Lebar finished the race in a time of 25.18 and finished third in her section. Watson and Helm-Wheelock also competed in the 200-event finishing with times of 25.45 and 26.01, respectively. Watson finished third in her section while Helm-Wheelock placed second in her section.Â
Â
