Spring Camp Starts Mar. 4
The Utah football team will kick off its 2019 spring camp on Monday, Mar. 4 with the first of 15 practices. The camp, which will run prior to and after the University's spring break, will conclude with the 16th-annual Red-White game on April 13.
Preseason Projections
Coming off their Pac-12 South Division championship in 2018, the Utes are receiving plenty of attention in the early preseason polls, with football expert Brett McMurphy putting the Utes at No. 10. Other polls placing Utah in their early top 25 are CBS Sports (No. 15), Bleacher Report (No. 15), SI.com (No. 15), Athlon (No. 16), 247 Sports (No. 18), ESPN.com (No. 18) and SB Nation (No. 20).
Break Time
The Utes will hold three practices during opening week, Mar. 4-7, before shutting down for spring break from Mar. 9-17. Camp will resume on Tuesday, Mar. 19 and will run for four consecutive weeks before wrapping up on Apr. 13 with the Red-White game.
Public Invited
All outdoor practices and scrimmages during spring camp will be open to the public. Practices held inside due to inclement weather will be closed to the public for space and safety reasons. Weekday practices begin at 3 p.m. at the Eccles Football Center practice fields, while Saturday practices start at 10 a.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium and will include two scrimmages and the Red-White game.

Camp Kyle
Head coach Kyle Whittingham is preparing to conduct his 15th spring camp at the U. The longest-tenured head coach in the Pac-12 and the third-longest tenured coach at the same school in the NCAA FBS, Whittingham boasts a 120-61 record. His 84.6% success rate in bowl games (11-2) ranks second in NCAA history and his 11 wins is tied for second among active coaches. Whittingham, now in his 26th year overall at Utah, joined the program in 1994 as the defensive line coach and was promoted to defensive coordinator the next year. In December of 2004, he became the school's 20th head coach.
One and Done Two Deep
The spring depth chart contained in the PDF version of this release will be the only depth chart issued during spring camp. A pre-fall depth chart will be released in late July prior to the start of preseason camp. The spring depth chart does not include players unable to compete due to injury and players not yet enrolled. Full or part-time starters who will miss spring camp with injuries and do not appear in the spring two deep are wide receiver Britain Covey, running back Zack Moss, linebacker Francis Bernard and defensive tackle Pita Tonga.
Roster Report
The Utes return starters at 14 positions, equally split between the offense and defense. Utah must replace both its kicker and punter after losing Lou Groza and Ray Guy Award winners Matt Gay and Mitch Wishnowsky to graduation. Favored to replace them are sophomore kicker Chayden Johnston and true freshman punter Ben Lennon … Tight end Jake Jackson has opted not to return for his senior season after earning his degree and receiving a job offer. Other recent departures are defensive end Nick Heninger and snapper Maddie Golden … Several position changes occurred in the offseason. Two-time second-team All-Pac-12 cornerback Julian Blackmon has moved to free safety for his senior year. Sophomore Bronson Boyd has moved from receiver to cornerback and senior Tyrone Young-Smith did the reverse move.
In the Huddle
Senior wide receiver Derrick Vickers expects to learn sometime this spring if his medical hardship waiver will be approved by the NCAA. Vickers is trying to get a year back from his days at Bakersfield College where he was a JC All-American in 2014 and 2016. He redshirted in 2015 and did not play in 2017. Vickers played in five games for the Utes last season … Texas transfer quarterback Cameron Rising has petitioned the NCAA to be immediately eligible to play in games in 2019. Rising, who redshirted last year at Texas, has four years to play four. He is currently listed as a sophomore on the roster, pending the NCAA's decision … Junior Viane Moala has been placed on scholarship. Moala redshirted last season after transferring from Hawaii.

Eight members of Utah's 2019 recruiting class are enrolled in school and on the camp roster. They include wide receiver Donte Banton, defensive tackle Keaton Bills, linebacker Manny Bowen, offensive lineman Luke Felix-Fualalo, defensive end Semisi Lauaki, punter Ben Lennon, offensive lineman Johnny Maea and quarterback Cameron Rising. Bills, Lauaki and Maea initially signed in 2016 before leaving for church missions.
