Women's Tennis Sweeps the University of New Mexico, 7-0

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis team came away with a victory today against the University of New Mexico, as the Utes were able to sweep the Lobos with a score of 7-0. With this win, Utah women's tennis moves to an overall record of 3-1 on the season.
"I think that we played a solid match of competition today," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "I think that they are going to be one of the better teams in the Mountain West, and the fact that we were able to win every match, I think that says a lot about our team and our level of resolve. I would be lying to you if I said I wasn't worried about this match today. I just feel that we did a very good job of competing and I think that will help us down the road."
The Utes were able to start the day of by earning the doubles point, starting with a victory from Brianna Chisholm and Madison Tattini on the No. 1 court, as they defeated Ruth Copas and Danielle Quevedo with a score of 6-1. To secure the doubles point, the final victory came from Whitney Hekking and Emily Dush, as they beat out Hsiang-Wen Huang and Yue Lin Chen at the No. 2 position, 7-6.
With a 1-0 lead heading into singles, Chisholm was notched a quick win at the No. 1 spot against Ruth Copas, with a final score of 6-1, 6-4. Lindsay Hung followed with a victory of her own on the No. 4 court, with another quick win against Bronte Murgett, finishing 6-0, 7-6. Then at the No. 4 position, Hekking defeated Natasha Munday with a score of 6-4, 6-3, to secure the victory for the Utes with a 4-0 lead over New Mexico. The final victories of the day came from Tattini, Dush and Leah Heimuli, as they were all able to defeat their competition in three competitive sets to give Utah the 7-0 sweep.
The University of Utah women's team will be back in action this Sunday to close out competition for the weekend. The Utes will be taking on Boise State at the Eccles Tennis Center, with competition set to start at 11 a.m. MT.
