PALO ALTO – Utah baseball dropped its first game of the weekend at No. 3 Stanford 7-4 in Palo Alto, California on Friday, March 22.
Oliver Dunn went 2-4 from the plate and had two RBI and
Kyle Robeniol and
Zac McCleve both combined for eight strikeouts for the Utes.
Dunn and
Zack Moeller got the Utes started in the first with a double from Moeller scoring Dunn from first, giving Utah a 1-0 lead. After Stanford tied the score up, Dunn drew a bases-loaded walk in the second to put the Utes back in front.
Stanford took the lead in the third, but Utah responded plating one in the fourth to once again to tie the score for a third time.
The Cardinal would go on to score a pair of runs in the fifth and the seventh to go up 7-3. The Utes got one back in the ninth, but couldn't come all the way back dropping the opening game of the series.
Robeniol pitched 6.0 innings surrendering five runs with three of those being earned. He had six strikeouts on the night.
Rykker Tom went 1-4 at the plate and scored a run to extend his on-base streak to 17 games.
Utah will take on Stanford once again on Saturday, March 23 at 3 p.m.
