Utah head coach
Brian Holman says that the Utes had a productive bye week.
"Our goal was to reset," Holman said. "My challenge to the staff and players is that this is a brand new season. We had time to heal and rest, we got two really good workouts in and we spent an inordinate amount of time on skill - getting back to catching and throwing the proper way, footwork, communication, slide angles - a lot of technical things that get lost and you don't practice a whole lot. We built four practices around just being better at those skilled parts of the game. Now we're going back into preparation mode and harder, more physical practices.
"I think we're in a really good spot mentally and physically. We don't have a lot of injuries, knock on wood. This week will be getting ready for Virginia and building off of last week and building more physicality into it. I think there's a renewed energy in our program. I feel it, I know the staff feels it and I know the kids feel it. To have our guys mentally and physically excited and prepared to go down the stretch is going to give us a good chance."
Virginia will be the fourth team currently in the rankings that Utah (4-6) has faced.
"How is playing these ranked teams going to show up in our last four games?" Holman said. "Each one of those games was different. I don't think we got a lot out of UMass because of the situation we were in. I think we learned a lot from Duke and hopefully what we get out of UVA is similar and can we build on that."
