FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Utah men's swimming team capped another successful evening at the Pac-12 Championships with 15 student-athletes qualifying for finals.
Austin Phillips and
Liam O'Haimhirgin both finished in the top 10 of the 200 free. Phillips swam a 1:34.07 in prelims while O'Haimhirgin hit the NCAA provisional standard in the prelims with the second fastest Utah time ever, 1:34.11. Also in the morning,
Robert King moved into ninth all-time with a swim of 1:37.58, qualifying for the "C" final along with
Cole Giandinoto (1:39.32).
Daniel McArthur earned another Top 10 finish for the Utes in the 100 back with a time of 46.75.
David Fridlander finished 18
th in 47.84. McArthur would team with
Andrew Britton,
Colten Montgomery and Phillips in the 400 medley realy, taking sixth overall in 3:08.58
The most Utah swimmers were involved in the 100 fly. Montgomery qualified for the "B" final with a NCAA provisional time of 46.52, the third-fastest swim in Utah history.
Ben Waterman also moved into the top 10, qualifying for the "C" final in 47.86.
Tony Puertas placed 18
th overall while
Felix Chiun and
Clay Stoddard qualified for this evening's event, but were replaced by
Chris Taber, who took 21
st.
Britton narrowly missed the top 10, taking 11
th in the 100 breast in 53.78.
Brody Lewis swam Utah's fourth-fastest time ever in the prelims, 54.29, and was joined in the "C" final by
Harrison Wayner and
Ethan Dillard.
The Utes remain in sixth place heading into the final day of competition. Tomorrow features the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1650 free and 400 free relay. Day Four coverage can be seen at 6:30 p.m. PT/7:30 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Washington.
