Women's Tennis Drops Match to No. 17 Cal

SALT LAKE CITY – The 46th ranked University of Utah women's tennis team was unable to record a victory earlier today, as they dropped their match to 17th ranked Cal with a score of 1-6. With this loss, the Utes will fall to a 12-10 overall record on the season, with a 2-7 record in Pac-12 conference play.
"I think that we are learning with every match. Today was a tough one against a very good team," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "I feel like that we were able to hold our own for a while, but we just need to do a better job of finishing. With that being said, Brianna Chisholm played an incredible match today, and she is our unquestioned leader of this team, in every way."
The Utes fell behind early as they were unable to earn the doubles point against Cal. On court No. 3, Emily Dush and Anya Lamoreaux dropped their match against Olivia Hauger and Katerina Stloukalova with a score of 5-7. Cal then sealed the doubles point with a win at the No. 2 position, as Whitney Hekking and Leah Heimuli were unable to defeat Julia Rosenqvist and Hana Mraz, as they fell 5-7.
In singles, Brianna Chisholm was the only Ute that was able to record a victory on the day. On court No. 1, she was able to upset 33rd nationally ranked Julia Rosenqvist, with a score of 6-2, 6-3. The Utes then dropped their matches on courts 2-6, to allow Cal to complete the 1-6 victory over Utah.
The University of Utah women's tennis team will be back in action next Saturday, April 20th, for their final home match of the season at the Eccles Tennis Center. This match will also wrap-up regular season play for the Utes. This final match will be against Colorado, and is set to start at 11 a.m. MT.
