EUGENE, Ore. – The Utah men's golf team slid one spot in the standings following the third round of the Pac-12 Championship on Tuesday and now sit in a tie for sixth place.
Kyler Dunkle carded his fourth straight round under par and is in second place heading into the final day of the conference tournament at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
Utah's five scorers combined to shoot 8-over par (363) in the third round and hold a 54-hole score of 14-over par. The Utes sit just six strokes back of the fourth-place team in the event, No. 6-ranked USC, who has a combined score of 8-over par.
No. 12-ranked California posted an impressive third-round 12-under par to take the lead in the conference event with a 54-hole score of 15-under par. UCLA (-12) is three shots back of Cal in second place, No. 17-ranked Stanford (-11) is right behind in third place, while USC (+8) and Oregon (+9) sit ahead of Utah.
Dunkle, who sat tied with USC's Justin Suh for the lead after two rounds, was paired with Suh on Tuesday and gained a lead of two strokes today after shooting 2-under par (69). Despite creating space from Suh, California's Collin Morikawa was able to match Dunkle's second round 7-under par (64) during his third round of play to take a one-stroke lead over Dunkle.
Morikawa has a 54-hole score of 11-under (202) heading into Wednesday, while Dunkle is in second place at 10-under par (203).
Tristan Mandur also had another great round for the Utes and is tied for 16
th overall. Mandur notched a third-round even par (71) and sits at even par (213) for the entire event with one round to go.
"We played pretty good on the front nine and then just didn't take advantage of the back nine," said Ute head coach
Garrett Clegg. "Kyler and Tristan really led us today. Tomorrow we need the entire group to step up to push our team up the leaderboard. Overall, these guys are doing a great job battling out here. I'm looking forward to tomorrow!"
Mitchell Schow shot 2-over par (73) for the Utes in the third round and is tied for 51
st place. Schow has a combined score of 9-over par (222) after 54-holes of action. Both
Axel Einarsson and
Blake Tomlinson posted rounds of 4-over par (75) to round out Utah's scorers. Einarsson is tied for 45
th place at 8-over par (221), while Tomlinson is also tied in 51
st place with Schow at 9-over par (222).
Jordan Costello is tied for 63
rd overall with a 54-hole score of 15-over par (228). Costello carded 6-over par (77) in the third round of action.
Costello will open the final round of play for Utah at the Pac-12 Championship Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. PT off the No. 10 tee with the rest of the Utes to follow. Utah will be paired with Arizona and Washington for the final 18 holes.
