SAN FRANCISCO – The Utah track & field team had a total of 18 student-athletes named to the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, the league office announced today.
Â
Utah has a total of four student-athletes named to the first team, two named second team, and 12 named honorable mention. The Utes, along with Arizona State, led the way with each program placing four student-athletes on the first team, while Stanford totaled a league-high seven student-athletes to both first and second teams – Utah and Washington State were tied with six each.
Â
Sophomores
Regan Crofts (3.94, Kinesiology),
Jackie Martin (3.96, Business) and
Bella Williams (4.00, French), along with redshirt freshman
Cara Woolnough (4.00, Biomedical Engineering), were each tabbed first team honorees. For a second consecutive season, junior
Nicole Griffiths (3.82, Nutrition) and senior
Megan Killian (3.78, Kinesiology) were both named second team selections.
Â
Utah totaled 12 honorable mention accolades, with
Emma Christensen,
Sarah Feeny,
Eliza Hansen,
Raynee Helm-Wheelock,
Whitney Hessler,
Brooke Martin,
Ruby Jane Mathewson,
Trina Moreno,
Jade Mulvey,
Sarah Newton,
Sadie Wassum, and
Mesa Weidle each earning the honor.
Â
This marks the first Pac-12 Track & Field All-Academic honors for Christensen, Crofts, Hessler, J. Martin, Mathewson, Mulvey, Williams and Woolnough. Meanwhile, Feeny, Griffiths, Killian, B. Martin, Moreno and Newton have been tabbed Track & Field All-Academic selections twice in their careers. Hansen is a three-time honoree, while Helm-Wheelock, Wassum and Weidle, have each earned all-academic honors four times in their respective careers.
Â
Washington State, who tied with Washington for the most honorable mention selections with 19 each, led the league with 25 total selections. Stanford followed with 24 selections and UW followed in third with 23 honors. Utah's total of 18 selections ranked fourth out of all 12 teams.
Â
This marks the fifth straight season that Utah has totaled double-digit all-academic selections in track and field, and the most since registering 18 selections back in 2016. This comes on the heels of
Utah's nine cross country all-academic selections this past fall, which included Christensen, Feeny, Newton, Wassum, Williams and Woolnough, each being named to that all-academic squad.
Â
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor, and have completed at least one year in residence at their current institution.
