SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah lacrosse team plays its second-straight ranked team, hosting 17th-ranked Air Force on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 12:00 p.m., at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The Utes fell to 1-1 after falling last week to then-17th-ranked Lehigh.
"Practice yesterday was great, working on fundamentals and the little things," head coach Brian Holman said. "The theme, as always, is how do we get better. We learned a ton from Saturday, good and not so good, and clean up those things, and how does that fit into our preparation for Air Force? Our focus yesterday was about the Utes. I thought we played really hard last week but we didn't play very smart. I take the blame for that, I don't think that our week of preparation was as it should have been."
Air Force is 1-1 on the year after and has already played two ranked teams, beating Duke and falling to Denver.
"We'll have our hands full with Air Force," Holman said. "They are going to play with a lot of passion and a lot of energy. They are an experienced lacrosse team. We will have to be on our toes and lessen some of the mental mistakes we had last week. If we sharpen those up and continue to build on the things that we've been getting better at, it might put us in a good spot to win."
For the Utes, Colin Burke ranks second in Division I with eight assists and is tied for fifth with 4.0 assists per game. He is tied for tied for fifth nationally with 12 points and tied for 11th in points per game (6.00). Samuel Cambere is tied for fourth in Division I with six caused turnovers and tied for sixth in turnover average (3.00).
Utah's game against Bellarmine is the highest attended of all Division I lacrosse teams so far this season, with 2,627 fans in attendance.
"Fired up to play at home again," Holman said. "I'm challenging the fans to come out on Saturday and wear their red and support the Utes. If we can put another 2,500 in the stadium, we would clearly be among the top teams in home attendance. That's my challenge. Their support means everything to us. That would mean the world to us, especially against a top-20 opponent."
