FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – It was another strong day for Utah Diving at the NCAA Zones on Tuesday with
Tony Chen qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 1-meter
"This has been the best zone meet we have had in several years," diving coach
Richard Marschner said. "Everyone is diving at a high level and it is fun to see them have success at a meet with such high stakes."
Chen impressed on the 1m, taking fourth overall after a preliminary score of 354.00. He was closely followed by
Luke McDivitt who finished sixth after a preliminary score of 304.25.
"Tony was right on again today and earned the right to compete at NCAAs in 1m," Marschner added. "Luke's sixth-place finish puts him in a great spot should he finish in that same spot tomorrow during the platform."
It was another close call for the women as
Lizzy DeCecco jumped up the leaderboards to finish 12
th with a final round score of 305.20 in the 3m. That amount was a new PR and was the eighth-best dive in Utah history.
"Lizzy smashed her foot on the board in warmups five minutes before the competition began, but she persevered, chose to compete and made finals," Marschner stated. "During the finals, she poured it on and set a new personal best at the hardest meet of the year. I am so proud of her and am happy to see her have such a great meet."
The Utes have one last day of competition tomorrow with both platform events.
