SALT LAKE CITY – Utah women's Nordic skier
Guro Jordheim and men's alpine skier
Joachim Lien have been named Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association regular-season MVPs. MVP's are determined by total regular-season points scored.
Jordheim won five of eight races during the regular season. She finished on the podium in all but one race and didn't finish lower than fourth all year. She was also the RMISA MVP in 2018. Jordheim is a six-time All-American for the Utes and has 17 career victories.
"This is another feather in the nearly full cap of collegiate athletic accomplishments for Guro," head Nordic coach
Miles Havlick said. "She has clearly proven herself to be the Most Valuable Player in the RMISA this season and been a reliable producer of points for us in every meet this year. Guro is a tremendous teammate on and off the ski tracks and we are lucky to have her on this team!"
Lien led the league with five race wins (four in the slalom). He also had a league-high six podium finishes. Lien also won the giant slalom at the RMISA Championships.
"Joachim is one of our captains and deserves to be MVP," head alpine coach
JJ Johnson said. "He challenges me more than any other athlete has ever challenged me, and has made me a better coach because he challenges all of us to be better. He always shows up for training, puts in the work on-and-off the hill, is a great leader and doesn't let anything slide. I'm incredibly proud of him."
The NCAA Championships begin on Wednesday, March 11.
