SEATTLE – The No. 44-ranked University of Utah women's tennis team fell Friday afternoon in Seattle to the No. 30-ranked Washington Huskies, 4-1. The Utes dropped to 10-4 overall following the opening match of Pac-12 play for Utah.
"A lot to learn from today," said head coach Ric Mortera. "We did not all execute the way we needed to in order to be successful as a team today. We will look to make the necessary adjustments and come ready to compete again Sunday."
In doubles,
Madeline Lamoreaux and
Emily Dush defeated Katarina Kopcalic and Nika Zupancic on the No. 2 court with a score of 6-2, but the Huskies then won matches on courts one and three to gain the doubles point.
Anya Lamoreaux and
Emily Dush fell at the No. 3 spot, followed by the No. 12-ranked duo of
Madison Tattini and
Whitney Hekking falling to No. 59-ranked Natsuho Arakawa and Vanessa Wong for the Ute pair's first loss of the spring season.Â
Â
Washington went on to win the singles match on court five, but Dush was able to stop the Washington wins momentarily, as she downed Katarina Kopcalic with a score of 6-3, 6-3, to put the score at 1-2 in favor of Washington. The Huskies then won matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to clinch the Huskies a 4-1 win over Utah.
