SALT LAKE CITY – Utah skiers
Guro Jordheim and
Joachim Lien as well as head alpine coach
JJ Johnson have earned Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association postseason awards, announced today by the league and as voted on by the coaches. Jordheim was selected as women's Nordic Athlete of the Year, Lien won men's Alpine Athlete of the Year and Johnson earned Alpine Coach of the Year honors.
Jordheim tied for the league lead this season with five victories and led the league with nine podium finishes, finishing outside the top five just once during the season. She finished third in the 5-km freestyle at the NCAA Championships and will finish her career with seven All-America honors, missing the chance to compete for a career maximum eight after the remainder of the championships were cancelled. It is the second time that she has won RMISA women's Nordic Athlete of the Year honors, also earning the honor in 2018. Jordheim will finish her career with 17 career victories and 29 career podiums.
Lien led the league with six victories in men's alpine (four slalom, two giant slalom) and eight podium finishes. He earned All-America honors in the giant slalom at the NCAA Championships with a third-place finish. Lien has 11 career podium and 15 career top five finishes.
Johnson has coached two seasons at Utah and earned RMISA Alpine Coach of the Year honors both years. This season he coached five skiers to All-America honors, led by podium finishes in the giant slalom at the NCAA Championships from Lien and
Sona Moravcikova. The Utes were the top-scoring alpine team at the Denver, Colorado and Utah Invitationals this year. A Utah skier won seven of the 13 men's races this year, with six wins for Lien and a giant slalom win for Dvoracek.
