Jaylon Johnson Drafted By Chicago Bears In Second Round

CHICAGO, Ill. – Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson was selected by the Chicago Bears in the second round with the 50th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft today.
Johnson is the third member of the Utah secondary taken in the second round in the past four years, joining Marquise Blair (2019, No. 47 overall pick, Seattle) and Marcus Williams (2017, No. 42 overall pick, New Orleans). He is the 15th Ute taken in the second round in program history.
Johnson is the 12th member of the Utah secondary drafted by the NFL during Kyle Whittingham's tenure as head coach. He is the sixth Ute in school history to be taken by Chicago and the second in the last three years (Kylie Fitts, 2018, 6th Round).
Johnson declared for the draft early, leaving the Utes after his junior season as a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 cornerback, seeing action in 38 career games with 29 starts. He finished his time as a Ute with seven career interceptions, 28 passes defended and 21 career pass breakups which ranks 10th all-time at Utah.
He earned All-America honors as a junior in 2019, starting in 13 games with 36 tackles, also ranking third in the Pac-12 with 11 pass breakups. He also had two interceptions his junior year, including his pick-six against Washington that sparked the Utes' rally in the third quarter.
The Fresno, Calif., native started all 14 games as a sophomore in 2018, earning first-team All-Pac-12 while leading the team and ranking third in the league in interceptions with four. He finished that season with 41 total tackles with his 126 interception return yards ranking eighth in the nation.
Even as a true freshman, Johnson made an immediate impact, playing in all 12 regular season games while tying for the team lead in pass breakups (6) with 25 total tackles. He also notched his first-career interception against BYU in just his second game of his collegiate career.
