SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Skiing program and Utah Athletics mourn the loss of Madeleine Talkington, who passed away on December 22 at the age of 31.
Maddie skied at Utah from 2007-11 and graduated with honors. During her time at Utah, she raced in 13 races on the Nordic team.
Originally from Springfield, Vermont, she was named an All-American at the Junior Olympics from 2004-07 and was the valedictorian at Stratton Mountain School.
After college, Maddie lived in Park City Utah to work for the National Ability Center, an organization that assists veterans and individuals with disabilities to access outdoor recreation. Working here inspired her to get a degree as a physical therapist.
Though notoriously difficult, Maddie sailed through physical therapy school, and graduated with a doctorate in 2020 from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona.
She was diagnosed with advanced melanoma in Oct, 2019 and fought like a champ until finally succumbing to complications on Dec 22nd, 2020 at 31 years old. Maddie is survived by her parents Nancy and John of Weston VT, elder sister Nora, younger brother Dale, and partner Hayden.
