SUN VALLEY – The Utah Nordic team had a quick turn around after winning the NCAA Championship last weekend and had three days of racing at Sun Valley this weekend.
The first day was a sprint race, the second day was a 5/10K and the third day was 10/15K skating. The Utes were skiing against some good competition with pro teams from Sun Valley and Bozeman.
During the first day it was raining on the skiers, but that didn't slow the Utes down.
Novie McCabe won and
Sydney Palmer-Leger took second. On the men's side,
Luke Jager finished in second and
Noel Keeffe came in third giving Utah four podiums in the sprint races.
The second day was similar to the first with McCabe winning the 5K and Palmer-Leger finishing right behind her. Palmer-Leger skied the race without kick wax.
Julia Richter finished shortly behind them in sixth.
In the men's 10K,
Samuel Hendry had a great race to take first place. Jager finished behind him in second double poling the entire race.
Ola Jordheim finished in sixth and Bjorn Riksaasen came in 10
th.
On the final day of racing, Palmer-Leger won the 10K by one tenth of a second over McCabe who came in second.
Mariah Bredal finished in fourth,
Abby Jarzin came in ninth and
Karianne Moe finished in 11
th.
Over the three days, Utah had six podium finishes in their final races of the season.
This marks an incredible season that saw Utah claim their 14
th national championship as well as go undefeated along the way in every meet they competed in.
