BOULDER, Colo. – Following her collegiate season debut this past weekend which included a classic victory and second-place freestyle performance, Utah's
Novie McCabe has been named RMISA Skier of the Meet for the women's Nordic portion of the Montana State Invitational.
It's the second straight week a Ute has taken the honor, following
Sydney Palmer-Leger on Monday, Jan. 10.
McCabe returned to college action this past weekend, less than two weeks removed from international competition at the Tour de Ski. She began the Montana State Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 15 finishing second in the 5K freestyle, returning the following day for a victory in the 10K classic race.
Her triumph in the classic race was the second of her career and sixth overall (adding four freestyle wins). McCabe has hit the podium in all 12 collegiate races she has competed in (six classic, six freestyle).
Utah has won all five RMISA women's races this season, with podium sweeps during both Nordic events at the MSU Invitational. It was the first time an RMISA team had a double sweep in the same discipline in the same meet since 2013.
Utah holds a commanding 123-point lead in the overall team standings between men's and women's Nordic competition. The alpine half of the meet gets underway on Tuesday, Jan. 18, and the Utes' Nordic team is idle until the Alaska Fairbanks Invitational, slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 1-2.
