Twelve Current and Former Skiing Utes Headed to Beijing 2022

Program-record for a single Olympics surpasses Salt Lake 2002
Spread across six countries, the Utah skiing Olympians include Tomas Birkner (Argentina), Kevin Bolger (United States), Keely Cashman (United States), Snorri Einarsson (Iceland), Madison Hoffman (Australia), Luke Jager (United States), Sophia Laukli (United States), Mo Lebel (United States), Novie McCabe (United States), Katie Parker (Australia), Roni Remme (Canada) and Katie Vesterstein (Estonia).
The Utes' 12 skiers headed to Beijing surpasses the prior program-record of six for a single Olympics—that coincidentally took place at Salt Lake 2002. It'll also be the third straight Olympics in which Utah skiing has been represented in coaching circles, as former Ute Nick Hendrickson now serves as the United States' Nordic combined team head coach..
"We are extremely proud of this group and send our congratulations to each of them," said Utah director of skiing Fredrik Landstedt. "We are excited that our team will be so well-represented at the Olympics. Skiing is normally a sport in which athletes peak in their late twenties or early thirties. For our team to especially have all these young athletes representing their countries on the biggest stage speaks volumes of our program. We wish everyone all the best in Beijing!"
Olympic alpine skiing will be contested from Feb. 6-19 at the Alpine Skiing Center in Yanqing, China, and cross-country action will take place Feb. 5-20 at the National Cross-Country Skiing Center in Zhangjiakou, China.
"This is an incredible reflection of the dominance of our amazing Utah Ski Team," said Director of Athletics Mark Harlan. "Led by our Director of Skiing Fredrik Landstedt, our ski program excels not only in the collegiate landscape with national championships, but on the international stage as well, with such strong representation across multiple countries' Olympic teams. I'm also grateful for the legacy established by Spence Eccles, and the support that he continues to provide to our program. We are incredibly proud of these student-athletes, and can't wait to watch them compete for medals and represent the University of Utah in Beijing."
Einarsson and Remme will be making their second Olympics appearances, after qualifying for the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
