Utes Post Strong Showing in Sun Valley’s Classic Sprints

Palmer-Leger logs first SuperTour victory and Hall earns first SuperTour podium
SUN VALLEY, Idaho – Sydney Palmer-Leger battled with Hailey Swirbul once again, and this time it was Palmer-Leger coming away with the classic sprints victory; while Tom Mancini led the Utes on the men's side with a second-place effort on a Saturday filled with heavy snow at the Sun Valley Invitational.
It was Palmer-Leger's first SuperTour victory and the first podium for Walker Hall, who placed third in the men's sprints. Palmer-Leger clocked a finals time of 4:36.01, which was three-tenths of a second ahead of Swirbul.
The finish for the men's race was even closer, with just three-hundredths of a second separating Mancini (3:47.90) from Xavier McKeever of the Canadian National Team in the finals.
"It was tough conditions with lots of snow falling all day long," said Hall, who posted the top result by a U.S. skier in the men's race. "The coaches did a really good job with the skis. Tom and I were in every heat together and we were able to work together well which was super fun. Overall, I'm super happy with the race and that the team did so well!"
Utah's weekend at the Sun Valley Invitational began Thursday with a 15K classic mass start and concludes on Sunday with a 10K freestyle individual start. The event is part of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard SuperTour schedule and is among an additional layer of competition for select Utes, complementing the team's traditional RMISA schedule which begins in January.
