BOSTON – Senior
Keelah Barger opened the indoor track season for Utah by crushing her previous PR in the 5000m with a time of 16:12.28 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener meet inside the BU Track & Tennis Center on the campus of Boston University.
Â
Saturday's season-opening meet was Barger's first indoor race in the 5000m since running in the Husky Classic back on Feb. 15, 2020, when she set her previous PR of 16:54.84. Additionally, the 16:12.28 mark for the Flagstaff, Ariz., native saw her move into fourth on the all-time list at Utah and passed All-American Jill Molen.
Meanwhile,
Emily Venters toed the line against seven other collegians and 14 professional or club runners in the top heat and ended with a DNF shortly after dropping out just past the 4000m mark.
Â
Barger and Venters return home ahead of a select group preparing to head down I-15 next week for the BYU Indoor Invitational (Dec. 8-10) inside Smith Fieldhouse.
