BOULDER, Colo. – Coming off of the program's third straight NCAA title and fourth in the last five completed NCAA Championships, Utah's
Miles Havlick was named RMISA Nordic Coach of the Year on Wednesday. It is the second straight year Havlick has been lauded with the honor.
Under Havlick's watch, the Utes Nordic team had another incredible season in 2022, culminating alongside Utah's alpine crew with the national championship. Along the way the Utes took first place in all but one RMISA regular season meet, before finishing atop the pack at the RMISA and NCAA Championships.
It was a campaign in which the Utes won both the overall Nordic and women's Nordic RMISA regular season championships, tallying a near-200-point cushion in both standings. In the RMISA men's Nordic standings, Utah was second. The team's 33 Nordic podiums were the most in the RMISA and 20 more than the next-closest program. It includes four women's sweeps.
Utah had an RMISA-leading 13 individual Nordic wins throughout the 2022 season, including in all 12 women's races.
Sydney Palmer-Leger, the RMISA Most Valuable Skier (both women's classic and freestyle) tallied six victories,
Novie McCabe four and
Sophia Laukli earned a pair of wins. On the men's side,
Luke Jager scored his first collegiate win in the men's 20K freestyle at the NCAA West Regional.
At the NCAA Championships, McCabe was crowned an individual national champion in the women's 5K classic and Laukli triumphed in the women's 15K freestyle. Utah turned in seven Nordic All-America performances, more than any other team.
Alongside Havlick, Chris Hendrickson of Westminster was named RMISA Alpine Coach of the Year.
