PARK CITY, Utah – University of Utah ski team alumnus Luke Bodensteiner was inducted into the Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame during a ceremony held at the Utah Olympic Park on August 24.
The Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame commemorates individuals with exemplary achievements in skiing and snowboarding competition, innovation and development, and who have made significant contributions to the overall promotion of skiing and snowboarding throughout the Intermountain Region of Utah, Idaho and Wyoming.
Bodensteiner was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the competitor category alongside John Simms (ski sport innovator).
A two-time NCAA individual 10km classical champion with the Utes (1990, 1993), Bodensteiner also represented the United States during the Winter Olympics in both 1992 and 1994. Earning NCAA All-American honors in 1990, 1991 and 1993, he led Utah to three top-three national finishes, including the 1993 NCAA Championship. The Utes placed second at NCAAs in 1990 and third in 1991. Bodensteiner was inducted into Utah Athletics' Crimson Club Hall of Fame
as a member of the Class of 2010.
In addition to his two Olympic appearances as a competitor, he was a three-time U.S. Cross Country National Champion and the first U.S. skier to compete in four World Junior Championships. He graduated from the U. in 1995.
Bodensteiner went on to be named vice president of athletics and later chief of sport for U.S. Ski & Snowboard. In these roles Bodensteiner played key administrative roles during the Olympic Games in Vancouver (2010), Sochi (2014) and Pyeongchang (2018). He was instrumental in establishing the Soldier Hollow Legacy Foundation and in 2009 was named chairman of the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation.
Later, he was named Chief of Sports Development and General Manager of Soldier Hollow--the 2002 Winter Olympics venue that continues to serve as a world-class training and competition site, including as host of the Nordic portion of the 2022 NCAA Ski Championships.
