SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah ski team and head Nordic coach
Miles Havlick announced on Tuesday the addition of Celine Mayer to the program. A native of Isny, Germany, Mayer comes to the Utes after skiing with SC Oberstdorf and the Zoll Ski Team in her home country.
"We are excited to have Celine joining our program this fall," Havlick said. "She has had a spectacular racing career in Germany and her European racing experience will be extremely beneficial for our women's program. Our women's team has been the strongest in the country for several years and we look forward to seeing Celine carry on the work ethic and camaraderie that has been key to achieving this success."
Mayer had two podiums and six top-10 finishes in FIS races during the 2022 season, with the podiums including a runner up in 5K classic at Notschrei, Germany and a third-place effort in the same event at Seefeld, Austria.
She was a Junior Relay World Champion in 2018 and owns multiple junior Bavarian and German national championships. Mayer also qualified and participated in the FIS U23 World Championships in 2020 and '21. Prior to that, she reached the 2016 Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway.
"I chose the University of Utah because of its amazing surroundings and landscape, as well as its status as the best college ski program in the U.S.," Mayer said. "There are awesome training opportunities, all while enjoying a very good education."
A complete rundown of Mayer's racing history is
available on her FIS profile.
Utah won its third straight NCAA Championship in 2022, as well as the program's fourth in the last five completed championship meets, all led by director of skiing
