The Utes will be up against six teams at the classic. Players from Boise State, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Utah, and Weber State will be competing in both singles and doubles in hopes of winning a title.
The tournament will be held at the Appleton Tennis Center. Admission to the matches is open to the public and free to all fans. The Barb Chandler Classic will again take the form of a mini-duals tournament. Each school will split its team into pairs who will compete against another pair. Each matchup will consist of a doubles match followed by two singles matches. The pair that wins two of the three matches advances to the next round. The top flight (Blue) and middle flight (Orange) will each consist of eight pairs, while a third flight (White) will consist of six.
Representing the Utes will be Samantha Horwood and Katya Hersh. Horwood competed in three fall tournaments last season and won the first three matches of her career. She looks to continue her winning ways this weekend at the Barb Chandler Invitational.
Hersh, a senior, collected her first collegiate title last season when she paired with Lindsay Hung to win the San Diego State Fall Classic doubles draw. She had seven doubles wins during the spring season and 12 overall on the season. Hersh added eight single victories to her win total last year.
Up Next Following the Barb Chandler Classic, Utah will send a group of its players to the 15k Hilton Head on October 2 in Hilton Head, S.C., and another group to the USD Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by the University of San Diego on Sept. 29-Oct. 2.
