The Utah track & field team saw three records fall while a total of five new marks were inserted into the all-time record book.
SEATTLE / LUBBOCK, Texas – The Utah track & field team saw a trio of records fall on Saturday between the distance and sprints teams at the UW Invitational and Texas Tech Open & Multis meets.
Emily Venters opened her indoor season with a bang on Saturday for the Utes, shattering the 3000m record set by Sarah Feeny (9:07.93) back in 2019 with a run of 9:00.95 to capture the event title. Meanwhile, Simone Plourde (9:07.00) also saw herself break Feeny's previous mark and moved into second on the all-time list in the 3000m for Utah. The duo of Venters and Plourde finished 1-2 in their heat of the 3000m race.
Additionally, Lauren Peterson (9:41.48), Morgan Jensen (9:43.38) and Chloe Kockler (9:57.43) each set new PRs for themselves in the 3000m race. Kylie Hartnett and Maddie Reed both ran their first collegiate 3000m race on Saturday, finishing one after the other in their heat.
Over in the 800m run, Brooke Manson posted a time of 2:09.44 while Bri Rinn recorded a time of 2:12.20 in her first collegiate race at that distance. Caroline Fischer competed in her first collegiate indoor race, recording a time of 5:08.56 in the mile.
The sprints crew also had a great day on the track over in Lubbock, Texas, breaking a couple of school records themselves.
For the second time in as many weeks, Dee Denis broke another Utah school record – this time in the 200m dash with a mark of 23.85 (aa). Bailey Kealamakia moved into a tie for ninth in the record books with a mark of 25.05 (aa) at Utah after her heat-winning run. Harley Daniel took second in her heat and narrowly missed out on cracking the top-10 with a sprint of 25.28 (aa).
Running against some of the fastest teams in the country, Utah's 4x400m relay team consisting of Daniel, Kealamakia, Martin and Denis bested the previous school record set back in 2020 with a time of 3:38.07.
Utah will have a light week coming up with a select group heading north to compete in the Speed and Power Meet hosted by Utah State on Saturday, Feb. 4.
