SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's basketball team will get huge road test this Thursday, Jan. 12, when it steps foot onto Pauley Pavilion to take on #7/6 UCLA in a match-up between No. 1 and No. 2 in the current Pac-12 standings.
Ted Robinson and former UCLA All-American Bill Walton will have the call in the 26th meeting between the Runnin' Utes and Bruins on Pac-12 Networks.
LA BOUND
Since joining the Pac-12 Utah has swept the LA schools on the road twice (2015-16, 2018-19) and have been swept on the road four times with a pair of splits – both wins coming against USC during those splits. In total, the Utes are 4-9 all-time against UCLA on the road with Thursday being the first time the Utes will face a ranked Bruin team on the road since joining the Pac-12. UCLA received votes in 2020-21 season when the two squared off in Pauley Pavilion with the Bruins prevailing 73-57.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite shooting well below their season average, the Utah men's basketball team kept itself within striking distance of the Oregon Ducks at home but ultimately fell 70-60. The Utes shot just .143 from 3-point range and .357 from the field. The only Ute to have a solid night all around was
Marco Anthony, who scored 15 points to go with 10 rebounds on 6-of-8 shooting – which was his seventh-career double-double. It also marked the second time in his career that the San Antonio, Texas, native has recorded back-to-back double-doubles.
UP NEXT
Utah closes out the short road swing to SoCal with a Saturday night battle with the Trojans of USC at 7:30 p.m. (MT). Ted Robinson will once again have the call in the Pac-12 Networks broadcast while another UCLA All-American, this time Don MacLean, serves as the analyst.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Runnin' Utes head back home the following week to welcome in Washington State (Thursday) and Washington (Saturday). Saturday's bout against the Huskies will serve as a RED OUT for Utah as it welcomes back former Runnin' Utes to the Hill for alumni night.
