CEDAR CITY, Utah – The No.11 Utah women's basketball team took down in-state foe, Southern Utah, Saturday afternoon with a final score of 96-60.
Utah had five Utes score in double figures with Alissa Pili leading the way with 20. Utah's bench had a strong showing with 34 points with Maty Wilke and Lani White each scoring 11. Utah is now 9-2 overall on the season.
GAME SUMMARY
It didn't take long for the Utes to capture momentum as Kennady McQueen dished the ball to a cutting Pili to spark a 17-0 run for Utah over the course of 4:35 in the first quarter. Utah ended the initial quarter of play with a 26-13 lead over the Thunderbirds.
Utah started the second quarter on an 8-2 run. Utah locked in defensively holding SUU to just 10 points in the second quarter. Utah charged into halftime with a 50-23 lead.
Pili led the Utes at the half with 17 points going 7-10 from the field and 3-4 from beyond the arc. Wilke also had double digit scoring in the first half with 10 points coming off the bench.
Utah's offense started slow coming out of the halftime break as Utah went nearly two minutes without scoring. Dasia Young cut back door to make a layup to spark a 6-0 run for the Utes. Utah's power maintained as the third quarter ended with a 71-39 score in favor of the Utes.
White started the fourth quarter off with a three to give the Utes the momentum. Utah was able to finish the game with a 96-60 final score over SUU.
LEADERS
Utah had five players score in double figures and were led by Alissa Pili who had 20 points. This is PIli's seventh consecutive game scoring 20 or more points in a game. She went 8-14 from the field, 4-6 from beyond the arc. Young put up a season high with 15 points and McQueen added 12. White and Wilke were the final Utes to breach double figures with both dropping 11 points coming off the bench.
McQueen and Wilke were serving for the Utes as each had six assists. Both Jenna Johnson and McQueen had six rebounds to help Utah.
COMPARISON
Utah ended the game shooting 55.7 percent from the field while Southern Utah shot 49.1 percent. Utah dominated beyond the arc knocking down 16 while SUU only made two.
The Utes out-rebounded the T-Birds 35-18. Utah had 34 points off the bench, 22 points off turnovers and 17 second chance points.
NOTABLES
The Utes are now 9-2 overall on the season and have a 15-1 record over SUU. Utah is now on an eight game win-streak in the opponent series and remain undefeated in Cedar City. Head Coach Lynne Roberts is now 3-0 against SUU.
Pili has now scored 20 or more points in nine games this season and has 20 or more points in seven consecutive games.

Utah will take on another in-state foe in Weber State Dec. 21 with a high noon tip off. Utah returns to the Jon M. Huntsman Center after three games on the road. Pac-12 action is set to start Dec. 30 at Colorado.
