PROVO, Utah – The Utah track & Field team wrapped up its first competition of the indoor season on Friday at the BYU December Invite inside Smith Fieldhouse.
Freshmen
Glo Hussey and
Rachel Bair made their debut in the Red and White on Friday, competing in the pentathlon. Hussey placed fifth-overall in her debut with 3364 points – which puts her in ninth on the all-time records list at Utah. Meanwhile, Bair finished with a combined total of 3274 points.
The day started with Hussey finishing fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.10 aa) while Bair crossed the finish line at 9.66 (aa). In the 800m run, Bair finished with a time of 2:27.93 (aa) to win her heat and third-overall while Hussey came in at 2:39.50 (aa).
Things then went off the track with Hussey leaping a top height of 5-2.5 (1.59m) fifth-overall while Bair posted a mark of 4-8.75 (1.44m). Then in the long jump, Hussey tied for first with two other competitors with a leap of 18-0.5 (5.50m) while Bair took fifth-overall with a jump of 17-7.5 (5.37m).
The two closed out the pentathlon with Bair taking third-overall in the shot put after tossing a distance of 34-9.75 (10.61m). Hussy managed enough to finish ahead of Bair in the overall standings with her toss of 30-1.75 (9.19m).
Utah's biggest day of competition will occur on Saturday as the rest of the sprints and distance teams arrive for the bulk of the meet on the track.
