SALT LAKE CITY – Utah's
Tomas Birkner is slated to compete in giant slalom and slalom at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Courchevel, France.
Birkner will start in men's GS on Friday, February 17 with the first run beginning at 10 a.m. local time (2 a.m. MT). Men's slalom qualifying will follow on Saturday, February 18 and the formal slalom event on Sunday, February 19. Live timing and results will be available
on the FIS website.
Birkner has made six collegiate starts this season with Utah (four slalom, two GS). He represented Argentina at the 2022 Winter Olympics, earning starts in both men's slalom and men's giant slalom. He was one of 12 qualifying Olympic athletes during this past Games with a connection to the Utah Ski Team; eight of those 12 are on the Utes' roster this season.
His appearance at the Alpine World Championships also ensures Utah will be represented on the world championships level in both alpine and Nordic disciplines. Currently, Utah's
Sophia Laukli and
Sydney Palmer-Leger are preparing for the FIS Cross Country World Ski Championships in Slovenia.
