HERRIMAN, Utah – The University of Utah Lacrosse team lost in heartbreaking fashion after rallying from behind in the fourth quarter against the Vermont Catamounts, eventually falling in overtime, 14-13.
GAME LEADERS
Junior attackman
Jordan Hyde led the team with another hat trick with his third goal of the game tying things up 9-9 in the fourth quarter.
The Utes had eight different players score at least one goal with
Ryan Stines,
Tyler Bradbury and
Cody Hart each scoring two with
MJ McMahon,
Jared Andreala,
Koa Todd and
Ruben Santana each adding one a piece.
Senior
Samuel Cambere recorded a team-high four ground balls with a caused turnovers with
Cole Brams,
Joey Boylston and
Josh Rose each contributing three ground balls. Freshman
Will Potter also led the Utes in caused turnovers, posting a career-high two against the Catamounts.
Freshman goalkeeper
Colin Lenskold was outstanding from start to finish, notching a program-record 20 saves in the game. He had 11 saves in the first half, including six in the second quarter, also grabbing nine saves in the second half.
FIRST QUARTER BREAKDOWN
The Utes trailed 2-0 with 4:30 remaining in the first quarter, finally getting on the board with 2:27 on the clock on a goal from Bradbury. Unfortunately for the Utes, Vermont would find the back of the net with 1:21 left in the quarter to make it 3-1 heading into the second.
SECOND QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Utah made it a one-point game with 10:53 on the clock in the second quarter off a goal by Hyde, but the Catamounts would answer once again, scoring three straight to take a 6-2 lead with less than a minute to play. Hyde would score his second goal of the game with 40 seconds left to make it a three-point game heading into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER BREAKDOWN
The Utes continued to battle and chip away at the Vermont lead, eventually making it a two-point game heading into the final quarter after scoring back-to-back goals from Stines and Santana to make it 9-7 as the fourth quarter loomed.
FOURTH QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Utah wouldn't let up with Bradbury and Hyde finding the back of the net just 30 seconds from each other, tying the game at the 10:23 mark, 9-9.
Vermont would go on another run, making it 12-9 with 8:41 remaining in the game before the Utes found some offensive rhythm. Utah countered with four unanswered goals, starting with Andreala at the 6:49 mark and finishing with Todd with 4:14 to go to give the Utes a 13-12 lead.
Vermont would find a way to send the game into overtime though, scoring with 27 seconds remaining in regulation to make it 13-13.
OVERTIME BREAKDOWN
The Utes would get off a shot attempt with 2:28 to go in overtime, but the Vermont goalkeeper would make the save with the Catamounts clearing the ball and scoring on the other end to find the victory.
UP NEXT
The Utes will hit the road for two straight weeks, starting with a game at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md. on Saturday, Feb. 25. The game is set to start at 10 a.m. MT.
