SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced today that Kim Gaucher, one of the most decorated student-athletes in Utah women's basketball history, will be inducted into the Pac-12 Hall of Honor, the conference's most prestigious recognition of contributors to Pac-12 athletics both in and out of competition.
The all-female class of 2023 will be inducted on Friday, March 3, in a special ceremony to be held during the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas, in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX.
The 2023 class also will be celebrated during a special recognition at halftime of the day's first semifinal matchup at Michelob Ultra Arena inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Gaucher, who starred at the University of Utah from 2002-06 as Kim Smith, is a member of the Utah Athletics Hall of Fame and was the first female student-athlete to have her jersey number retired in recognition of her significant achievements as a Utah Ute. She was named the Player of the Year in the Mountain West Conference all four years she played—twice outright and twice shared—and earned third-team All-America honors as a senior in 2006. Still the program's all-time leading scorer (2,281 points), she was four-time Honorable Mention WBCA All-American, a CoSIDA Academic All-American and one of only two Utes to be named conference player of the year four times.
Gaucher was a first-round selection in the 2006 WNBA Draft, going to the Sacramento Monarchs with the 13th pick overall, and was acquired by the Phoenix Mercury in 2009. As a captain of the Canadian National Team beginning in May 2000, Gaucher was the team's leading scorer and helped the squad to the quarterfinals of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the team's best finish since 1980. She also played for Team Canada in the 2016 Rio Games and in Tokyo 2020, played in the summer of 2021. Gaucher also has competed for Team Canada in the FIBA AmeriCup in 2009, '11, '13 and '15, as well as the 2015 Pan-American Games.
A 2006 Utah graduate, who earned her bachelor's degree in communications, Gaucher later served as director of community relations for Utah's women's basketball program from 2013-15.
Gaucher's fellow 2023 Pac-12 Hall of Honor inductees include Arizona's Susie Parra (softball), Arizona State's Jackie Johnson-Powell (women's track & field), California's Dr. Luella Lilly (athletic administration), Colorado's Ceal Barry (women's basketball coach/athletic administration), Oregon's Janie Takeda Reed (softball), Oregon State's Dr. Mary Budke (women's golf), Stanford's Jessica Mendoza (softball), UCLA's Natalie Williams (women's basketball/volleyball), USC's Barbara Hallquist DeGroot (women's tennis), Washington's Danielle Lawrie (softball), and Washington State's Sarah Silvernail (women's volleyball)
