OFF THE BLOCKS
With the busy weekend ahead, the Utes will send 24 competitors to compete between the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays. In addition to competing with the top athletes at both meets, the Mt. SAC Relays will also see Utah toe the line against some the best professional athletes in the United States as well.
Â
Those competing at the Mt. SAC Relays will also get some additional familiarity at Hilmer Lodge Stadium – which will be the host site of this year's Pac-12 Championships (May 12-14). Â
Â
Last year in the same meets, former All-American
Cara Woolnough broke the 5000m school record with a run of 15:40.52 at the Bryan Clay Invitational – which could be threatened with
Emily Venters,
Simone Plourde and
Bella Williams all racing in that event this weekend.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Utah once again had success at its home meet thanks to its facilities staff, who worked tirelessly to clear two feet of snow off the track. The meet saw 10 facility records set ablaze while the Women of Utah broke three school records to go with countless new PRs.
Â
Utah's 4x100m relay team consisting of
Dee Denis,
Emily Martin,
Maya LeBar and
Josefine Eriksen got the meet kicked off breaking the facility and program record with a combined time of 44.77 (aa). Later on, freshman
Shana Van Elderen crushed the previous triple jump record with a leap of 12.75m (41-10) in her final attempt of the afternoon.
Emily Martin wrapped things up for Utah by breaking Alissa Atisme's 100m record with a sprint of 11.73 (aa) against a -3.0 head wind.
Â
UP NEXT
Utah won't be traveling as far next week with a select group competing at the Robison Invitational (April 20-22) down at BYU while
Emily Venters heads on down to the Payton Jordan Invitational.
