SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah Lacrosse team reached the 20-goal mark for the third time this season, posting a 22-8 victory over Lindenwood today at Ute Field. The win secured Utah's spot in the ASUN Championship for the second straight year with the Utes sitting at 7-4 overall and 6-0 in league play.
Utah outshot Lindenwood 66-39 with the Utes also recording 42 shots on goal. The Utes also produced 49 ground balls compared to Lindenwood's 36.
Utah is now just one of two schools in the country (North Carolina) that has scored 22 goals or more in three separate games, also serving as the only team in the ASUN to achieve the feat.
GAME LEADERS
Utah saw 13 different players get on the scoreboard today, led by junior
Jordan Hyde who put away a career-high tying six goals, also adding an assist for a career-best seven points. Junior
Jared Andreala added a hat trick with senior
Samuel Cambere and sophomore
Cody Hart adding two goals each.
Junior
Josh Rose led the Utes in ground balls with six, adding a caused turnover and two assists with Cambere contributing four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Hart and Hyde also posted career-highs in ground balls with five each while sophomore
Colby Plotts and junior
Joey Boylston tied with Cambere for a team-high in caused turnovers (2).
A trio of goalkeepers combined for 16 saves on the day with
Connor Hollison and
Zack Johns each chipping in seven saves with
Joey Garcia recording two.
FIRST QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Lindenwood struck first, scoring at the 14:25 mark for its only lead of the game. Utah would counter with Andreala's first goal of the game, sparking a 5-0 run for the Utes.
It would be back-to-back goals from Andreala, giving the Utes a 2-1 lead with 12:36 on the clock, drilling one in from distance, followed by an ankle breaker from
Tyler Bradbury for the two-point advantage. Hyde scored his first goal of the game at the 4:16 mark in the quarter to put the Utes up 4-1 with
Ryan Stines closing out the period with a goal to give Utah a four-point lead heading into the second.
SECOND QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Lindenwood made it a two-point game by scoring two unanswered to start the second quarter, but a powerful shot into the back of the net from
Peter Hagan would give Utah a 6-3 lead at the 12:42 mark. Hyde's second goal of the game put the Utes up 7-3, followed by back-to-back poll goals from Plotts and Cambere to hand the Utes a six-point lead.
It would then be two straight goals from Hyde, including getting one off a rebound and the other low to the corner to end Utah's 6-0 run. Lindenwood would score its fourth goal of the game with 2:39 remaining in the half with the Utes heading into halftime up 11-4.
THIRD QUARTER BREAKDOWN
It would be another scoring run for the Utes to start the third quarter with goals from Cambere, Todd and Hyde to lift the Utes to a 14-4 lead with 8:12 on the clock.
Lindenwood got on the board with 7:50 left in the third quarter to make it 14-5, but saves from Hollison would keep them out of the back of the net for the remainder of the period.
FOURTH QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Utah started the fourth quarter on a 4-0 scoring run, including two goals from Hart to give the Utes an 18-5 lead at the 11:36 mark. Utah's final four goals of the game would be the first of the season for the individuals that found the back of the net with points coming from
Drew Wasserman,
Luke Haley,
Justus Peterson and
Luc Charbonnier.
Johns also finished the quarter with seven saves with Garcia adding two to solidify the Utes 22-8 win.
