CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 19 University of Utah Lacrosse team finished ASUN play undefeated with its 18-6 victory on the road at Queens University today, improving to 10-4 overall and 9-0 in the league.
Utah's 10 wins is the most wins in program history during regular season play after the Utes finished 2022 with 10 wins overall. With the Utes' 18 goals today against the Royals, Utah has scored 18-or-more goals in nine games this season, including in the last eight.
It wasn't just an offensive show for the Utes today though with Utah's defense holding Queens to just six goals, the second-fewest goals allowed in program history.
Utah outshot the Royals 65-31 with 39 shots on goal. The Utes also produced 40 ground balls compared to their 28 with Utah also forcing 12 of Queens' 18 turnovers.
GAME LEADERS
Utah had 11 different players find the back of the net today with five scoring two-or-more goals, led by juniors
Jared Andreala and
Carson Moyer, who both finished with hat tricks. Andreala finished with a team-high four points, adding his assist to his three-goal performance.
Junior
Tyler Bradbury scored two goals with
Luc Charbonnier and
Drew Wasserman posting a career-high two goals each.
Tyler Kloeckl led the Utes in ground balls with six, also winning a career-high eight faceoff wins.
Joey Boylston also produced five ground balls and a caused turnover with
Ryan Stines and
Dominic Mata leading the team with two caused turnovers each.
FIRST QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Andreala got things started for the Utes, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the game for a quick 2-0 lead.
Koa Todd would complete the 3-0 run with a shot between the Queens' goalkeeper's legs before the Royals got on the board to make it 3-1 at the 8:51 mark.
Moyer scored his first of three goals with 7:49 on the clock before Queens made it a two-point game with 4:00 to go in the quarter. Utah would counter though, taking a four-point lead into the second quarter on a goal from
Jordan Hyde and
Zachary White's first goal of his collegiate career for a 6-2 advantage.
SECOND QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Moyer opened scoring in the second quarter with a diving, over the shoulder shot to give Utah a 7-2 lead with 12:37 on the clock. He would go on to complete his hat trick with 4:40 remaining in the half on a deep shot from outside the crease, give Utah an 8-3 lead.
Bradbury scored his first goal of the game and Utah's ninth with 2:34 on the clock with Queens sneaking one in before time expired with Utah taking a 9-4 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Utah opened the third quarter on a 3-0 run, starting with Bradbury's second goal after the junior intercepted a pass in front of the crease, burying it in the open goal for a 10-4 advantage. Goals from Andreala and
Will Overly would give Utah a 12-4 lead with 8:23 to go in the quarter before Queens found its way back on the board to make it 12-5 at the 7:27 mark.
Queens would score its final goal of the game with 6:20 left in the third quarter with Utah taking seven-point lead into the final quarter on a goal from
MJ McMahon.
FOURTH QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Utah would score five goals in the fourth quarter, holding Queens scoreless for the entire 15:00 period. Wasserman and Charbonnier would combine for four of the five goals with
Tyler Schifko also finding the back of the net for Utah to walk away with its 18-6 win.
