TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The University of Utah Lacrosse team eclipsed 20 goals for the second time in conference play, putting up a school record 26 against Robert Morris on the road today, scoring a 26-16 victory. Utah is 6-4 overall and 5-0 in the ASUN.
Utah is just the second team this season in NCAA Division I lacrosse to score 26 or more goals in a game and is one of just three teams nationally that have scored 24 or more twice this season. Utah's 26 goals was the second time the Utes have broken the program record for single-game goals after the Utes put up 24 against Detroit Mercy.
The Utes also tied their season-high in assists with 12, giving them a school record 38 points. Utah posted 51 ground balls for the second 50+ ground ball game this year, also winning 70-percent on faceoffs with a program record 31 victories (31-of-44).
GAME LEADERS
Junior
Koa Todd led the Utes in points today, scoring a career-high seven on a career-best five goals and two assists. His seven points against the Colonials ties for the third-most points in a game in program history.
Junior
Jordan Hyde tied his season-high in points with six, scoring five goals and an assist, marking the third time in four games he has had five goals. Juniors
MJ McMahon (3 goals, 2 assists) and
Tyler Bradbury (2 goals, 3 assists) also pitched in five points each with McMahon scoring a hat trick and Bradbury giving Utah a team-best three assists.
Senior
Cole Brams racked up a season-high tying 15 ground balls, also once again setting a new school record for single-game faceoff wins with 27 (27-of-35).
Josh Rose contributed a season-high eight ground balls and a caused turnover with senior
Samuel Cambere notching a game-high three caused turnovers.
FIRST QUARTER BREAKDOWN
It was a game of back and forth to start the first quarter with the teams trading goals for ties with the Utes making it 2-2 with 10:50 on the clock on a shot from Distance from Todd. The Utes would take their first lead of the game with
Ryan Stines going up and over the goalie for a 3-2 lead, but the Colonials would ties things up at the 6:50 mark in the corner.
Down one with 5:20 to go, Utah would score two unanswered, starting with Stines putting away his second of the quarter followed by
Zach Chandler's first of the game off a spin move to give Utah a 5-4 lead heading into the second.
SECOND QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Utah would take an early two-point lead with
Carson Moyer's goal at the 14:15 mark, but Robert Morris would keep things close, tying the game 6-6 with 10:12 to go in the quarter.
Bradbury would put the Utes up one after breaking around his defender one-on-one to find the back of the net in the top corner, sparking a 3-0 run. It would then be back-to-back goals from Hyde with the Utes scoring its 3-0 run in less than 40 seconds for a 9-6 lead with 9:00 remaining.
Utah went on to secure a 12-7 advantage on goals from Todd,
Cody Hart and Hyde, but Hyde's goal with 4:58 to go would be their last of the quarter, allowing Robert Morris to make it 12-11 on a 4-0 run to end the half.
THIRD QUARTER BREAKDOWN
The Utes would get the game back in hand in the third quarter, outscoring the Colonials 6-3. Robert Morris made it 12-12 with 12:09 on the clock, but Utah would answer with back-to-back goals from McMahon and Todd to give the Utes a 14-12 lead with 8:50 to go in the third quarter.
The Colonials would make it a one-point game just seconds later, but it would be the closest they would get for the remainder of the game. Utah would go on a 4-1 run to end the quarter with goals from McMahon, Chandler, Moyer and Todd to put the Utes up 18-14 as they headed into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER BREAKDOWN
The fourth quarter would be another scoring frenzy for the Utes, putting up eight goals while keeping Robert Morris to just two. Utah outshot the Colonials 24-8 with 18 of those being on goal, also winning the ground ball game at 13-11.
Utah would start the quarter on a 6-0 run, holding Robert Morris scoreless until the 7:01 mark for a 24-15 lead. Utah's final two goals of the game would come from
Peter Hagan, his first of the season, and Bradbury, securing the win and the school record for the Utes.
