SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Nordic skier
Brian Bushey has been named RMISA Skier of the Meet for the Utah Invitational, it was announced today. It is Bushey's first career Skier of the Meet honor.
The award is given to the skier who has the best combined placement in each race within an invitational. Skiers cannot win more than once in a season and any ties are broken by combining the skier's times.
In last week's pair of Utah Invitational races at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, Bushey began the meet with a winning time of 18:48.1 in the men's 7.5K freestyle race—two seconds ahead of Denver's Andreas Kirkeng. It put Bushey in position for a podium finish the following day in a 10K classic pursuit start.
He went on to post a 10K classic time of 25:45.5 and total pursuit time of 44:33.5, skiing to the podium as the silver medalist for the pursuit. He was short of only teammate
Joe Davies for the win in that event.
Both results gave Bushey his first collegiate podium appearances.
