Head Coach Kyle Whittingham On what he's learned in the last few days…
The things we talked about in the press conference afterward showed up on the tape. We didn't run the ball well enough. We didn't defend the run well enough. We dried up in the red zone, didn't convert fourth downs, we weren't physical enough and really they came ready to play. We were not as ready as they were. They beat us and that's what happens when you're not ready to play.
On Cameron Rising's injuries and if there's something about how he processes injuries that could help Cameron...
All I'll say is Cam Rising wants to play worse than anybody and when he's able to, he will. I can tell you for certain he wants to play and as soon as he gets the go-ahead, he will play.
On if Isaac is ahead of the some of the freshman who've started at quarterback previously for Utah…
He's doing some really good things. He's also making some freshman mistakes. There's a learning curve. I can't think off the top of my head who's started as a true freshman for us in the past, but he's done some things that've exceeded our expectations and some other things that are very freshman-like. He's shown a lot of toughness, a lot of courage. He has a great deal of confidence and he has a lot of tools and natural gifts to succeed at the position.
On if the last two games emphasize the urgency of getting Cam Rising back as starting quarterback…
Yeah, he's one of the best quarterbacks in the country. It's a quarterback driven game. It's the most important position on the field and it's not even close. If you have an elite quarterback like Cam Rising, it definitely helps to get him back on the field.
On where they start attacking as far as improving red zone efficiency…
We know exactly where it needs to happen. We're getting better schematically, putting out kids in better positions to succeed. We're going to tweak some things in practice. We've definitely identified problems and we know we can be a lot better.
On the most pressing red zone issues they need to fix…
Coming off of the last game, physicality at the line of scrimmage. We got outrushed 2-to-1 essentially and that can't happen. That's exactly how beat up on people. It was disappointing to see that happen. We also have to tackle better. We had some live tackling today at practice because we didn't tackle well enough. Arizona's backs did a great job. They're physical, they're fast, but things we need to correct, we'll work on and we expect to be much better next week.
