Men's Basketball Set to Open 2024-25 Campaign on Nov. 4

The Utah men’s basketball team hosts Alcorn State on Monday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. (MT) for its season-opener.
SALT LAKE CITY – The 2024-25 Utah men's basketball team will tip-off its season on Monday, Nov. 4, against Alcorn State at 7 p.m. (MT) inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Krista Blunk and former Runnin' Utes assistant coach Joe Cravens will have the call between Utah and Alcorn State as the two battle it out on the court for the first time in program history on ESPN+.

With the women's basketball team hosting Southern Utah at 11 a.m. (MT) on opening day of college basketball, all fans with a ticket to the women's basketball game can redeem their ticket at the men's game for a FREE General Admission ticket. The same will apply to the following doubleheader days with women's basketball.

MOVING ON UP
Heading into this season Gabe Madsen looks to insert himself into a couple more categories in the career record books at Utah. The Rochester, Minn., product is currently sixth all-time with 213 career made 3-pointers. The 6-6 guard is just 40 points shy of joining a select group of Runnin' Utes in the 1,000 career points club at Utah and technically 37 points of scoring 1,000 points in his collegiate career having scored 3 points during his short stint at Cincinnati. In addition, he'll be gunning for the No. 10 spot in the all-time steals list – which is currently being held by Jimmy Soto (1989-93; 122).
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR
This year's Runnin' Utes roster boasts players from seven different countries, which is tied for the third-most this season in NCAA Division I and includes those hailing from the United States.
SEEING DOUBLE
You are not seeing double. Gabe Madsen is joined by his twin brother Mason Madsen this season as the two reunite for the first time since the two started their collegiate career at Cincinnati. The last time the two took the court for the first time was in a high school playoff tournament game that was cancelled due to COVID-19.
As of Oct. 28, the Madsen brothers are just 1-of-10 set of twins playing on the same team in Division I basketball.
PROGRAM VICTORIES
The Utah men's basketball program heads into the 2024-25 season with 1898 victories – which is 15th-most in the NCAA Division I record book. Texas is currently ahead of Utah with 1900 program victories.
20 WIN SEASONS
After going 22-15 last season, Utah recorded its 40th season with 20-plus wins, tying it with Arizona, Marquette and St. John's. The 40 seasons with 20-plus wins is tied for 14th-most in the NCAA Division I men's basketball.
IT RUNS DEEP
The Red vs. Blue rivalry in the Beehive State has gone on for 115 consecutive years starting in 1909 and is just 1-of-4 rivalries that are still active in Division I basketball.

As of Oct. 28, 2024, Utah head coach Craig Smith is 1-of-15 Division I head coaches with a son on the team. Smith's son, Brady, a sophomore transfer from Salt Lake CC, is currently on the team. In addition, his eldest son, Landon, is also a on staff serving as the director of administration and operations.

Utah continues its three-game homestand to start the year with Central Arkansas on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 8:30 p.m. (MT) as part the second-straight doubleheader day with women's basketball – who will face Weber State ahead of the men at 5:30 p.m. (MT).
