SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah, in collaboration with Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake Bees, announced a partnership today that will allow the Utes to play home games at Smith's Ballpark during the 2025 baseball season. Plans remain for the Utes to begin competition on-campus in 2026, inside Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark.
The arrangement will bring Big 12 Conference baseball to downtown Salt Lake City, as well as provide the program one more season in the venue that has served as its primary home since 1996. As part of the agreement, the Salt Lake Bees will maintain and provide game-day operations to facilitate University of Utah games. A full 2025 season schedule, as well as ticket information, will be shared once finalized.
"This is an important partnership for our baseball program, to maintain continuity for one more season of play at Smith's Ballpark before moving into their new on-campus stadium in 2026," said Mark Harlan, Director of Athletics. "I want to thank Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, the Salt Lake Bees, Miller Sports + Entertainment, and the Larry H. Miller Company for their partnership to make this agreement a reality."
"Our program has immense gratitude to all involved in this process," added head coach
Gary Henderson. "Our players have enjoyed the opportunity to play in Smith's Ballpark for many years. This arrangement will provide continuity not only for our players—but also our fans—before our club begins playing on campus."
Construction began earlier this Summer on the new on-campus home of the Utes, located on Guardsman Way at the former Utah Baseball practice facility. The new field surface is expected to be available for team practice only beginning in Spring 2025.
Utah is coming off of a 2024 season that saw the program make incredible strides. Showing improvement from '23 in virtually every facet, the team won 33 games—the second-most victories all-time. Henderson's club entered the national polls with a top-25 ranking, the first such occasion in any of the five current major polls. Following the season, three Utes were selected in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Five current members of the Big 12 Conference reached the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The league finished top-three in the NCAA's RPI rankings the last four seasons, and has sent at least one team to nine of the last 10 Men's College World Series.
