DOHA, Qatar – University of Utah diver
Emilia Nilsson Garip competed in her first event at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar on Friday and took 10th-place in women's 1m springboard.
Nilsson Garip, who will also be competing in mixed 3m synchronized diving on Feb. 10, started the day by posting a score of 242.15 in the preliminary round, good enough for fourth place. In the final, she picked up her best scores on the 105B and 5333D on her way to a total of 247.45, which landed her inside the top 10.
Nilsson Garip isn't the only Ute in Qatar, as
Elias Petersen has three events he'll be competing in at the World Championships, starting on Saturday with the men's 1m springboard. Petersen will also be vying for medals in the 3m and he'll be teaming up with Nilsson Garip in 3m mixed synchronized diving.
