Three-set battles help secure two wins against the Gaels
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Utah Beach Volleyball got back in the win column with a split in their first day of action from the inaugural San Jose Invitational. Dropping the opener to Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, 0-5. With their second match, Utah bounced back to capture victory over Saint Mary's, 3-2.
In the first match of the day, the third court pairing of Chloe Narancich and Lauren Sayre pushed their opponents to a three-set match. Narancich and Sayre took the first set 21-18, falling in the last two sets 8-21 and 6-15 down the stretch. On the fourth court, Kylie Pitzak and Marissa Koch took their match to a three-set contest, after taking the first set 22-20, the Utah pairing fell in the final two 18-21 and 13-15.
In the second match of the day, Utah secured three wins coming on the first, second and fifth courts. The Ute pairing of Langley Griffin and Katie McAlister battled in a three-set match on the first court, dropping the first set 19-21 and taking the final two sets, 21-15, 15-12. On the second court, Rylee Johnson and Bella Vezzani were in a back-and-forth contest, taking the first set 21-16, before dropping the second 17-21. The Utah duo rallied in the third set to take the match, 15-13. Utah sealed the match with a win on the fifth court coming from Sonja Wessel and Milan Ray, 21-16, 21-18.
