Most recent win streak ends at four matches as Utes split day one from Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Utah Beach Volleyball team extended their most recent win streak to four matches, defeating Missouri State in their first match of the weekend, 4-1. The Utes would return to action later in the afternoon and fall to host Arizona, 5-0, in the final match of the day.

Utah picked up four wins to start the day, taking courts one, two, four and five. The Ute pairing of Langley Griffin and Katie McAlister secured a quick decision on court one, 21-9, 21-14, against Missouri State. The duo of Kylie Pitzak and Marissa Koch added a 21-14, 21-12 win from the fourth court, giving Utah the 2-0 advantage. On the second court, Bella Vezzani and Rylee Johnson earned the third win for Utah, 21-15, 21-19. The fifth court would see a three-set battle be played out by Milan Ray and Sonja Wessel, after dropping the first set, the duo went on to seal the match, 16-21, 21-15, 15-10.

In the second match of the afternoon, the pairing of Vezzani and Johnson were the lone duo to put up a three-set fight, falling to their opponents from Arizona, 19-21, 22-20, 15-13. The team of Griffin and McAlister made their match interesting down the stretch, falling 21-16, 23-21 in the end.
