SALT LAKE CITY – Friday was a great day for the Utah track & field team with every runner setting a new personal best mark at the Bryan Clay Invitational inside Cougar Athletics Stadium.
Â
Ellie Lundgreen and
Maddie Reed kicked open the day for Utah with the pair both posting new personal best in the 5000m open races. Lundgreen was the first to cross the finish line among the two with a run of 16:53.13 for seventh-overall in that section to best her previous mark by just a tad over 12 seconds. Meanwhile, Reed placed 11th-overall in the same section of the race with a time of 16:57.22 for a new PR mark as well.
Â
Brooke Manson got the evening session rolling for the Utes, becoming the third-straight runner for Utah to set a new PR. Manson not only set a new personal best time of 2:04.05, but moved up to third all-time at Utah in the 800m event.
Â
The evening continued to be fruitful in Southern California for Utah as
Kylie Hartnett went out and topped her previous PB by 14 seconds in the first 5000m race of the night with a new best mark of 16:41.06 for ninth-overall.
Â
Utah's duo of
Lindsey Peters and
Katarzyna Nowakowska put a bow on what was already a great day for the Women of Utah as the two went 1-2 in their section of the 5000m Friday night. After the pacer dropped out at the 3000m mark, Peters took over as the leader of the pack until about the 3600m mark when teammate Nowakowska took over as the clubhouse leader. Heading into the 4100m mark, Peters was tripped up on the railing but was able to jump back up and recover to get behind Nowakowska with 800m left to go.
Â
With poise and not shaken up, Peters would then retake the lead heading into the straightaway with 400m remaining and never looked back as the Air Force transfer won the section with a PR time of 16:09.25. Her mark also moved her into 10th on the all-time list to just bounce
Keelah Barger (2022; 16:10.66) from the top-10. Katarzyna finished second right behind Peters with a mark of 16:10.13 in her collegiate 5k debut.
Â
Running unattached in her first collegiate 5k,
Anna Peters posted a time of 16:19.45 to take 14th-overall in her heat to close out a very long day at the track for the Women of Utah.
Â
The Utes also had a reunion on the track with former All-American
Simone Plourde – who finished fourth with a new PB mark of 15:13.57 to be 1-of-9 runners in the 5000m invite section to run a new facility record.
Â
The Women of Utah will close out the weekend on Saturday at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a flurry of 1500m races on deck beginning at 6 p.m. (MT).
