BELGRADE, Serbia – University of Utah divers
Emilia Nilsson Garip and
Elias Petersen have both earned medals while competing in the European Aquatics Championships, which continued on Wednesday in Belgrade, Serbia.
Nilsson Garip collected her first medal on Tuesday by taking third in the women's 1m springboard. On Wednesday, she teamed up with Petersen in the mixed 3m synchronized final and together they posted a score of 261.42, good enough to earn a silver medal.
These accomplishments come just a few months after these two Utah teammates combined to take sixth in the mixed 3m at the World Championships, while Nilsson Garip finished 10th in the 1m. Nilsson Garip was also named to the Swedish Olympic Team in March, with diving events at the Olympiad scheduled to begin on July 27.
Neither Petersen nor Nilsson Garip are finished competing in Belgrade. Petersen will be diving in the men's 1m competition on Thursday, as well as the 3m on Saturday and Nilsson Garip will be aiming for a spot in the 3m final on Friday.
