CHICAGO – Utah Volleyball picked up its third win in a row, with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-17) sweep of the Northeastern Huskies, on the final day of the Loyola Chicago Invitational. Â
Utah wasted no time taking an early lead on Northeastern, doubling-up the Huskies, 10-5. The Utes put together back-to-back four-point runs, helping the team get to the 10-point benchmark and then the second run would allow Utah to take a 13-5 advantage. Utah continued to string runs together, while holding the Huskies at bay, pushing the advantage out to 21-11. After Northeastern tried to chip away at the Utah lead,
Kamry Bailey put away back-to-back kills to secure the 25-17 first set win.
Â
Claranne Fechter got the second set started, acing the Northeastern defense for the first point. The Utes quickly raced out to a 10-5 advantage for the second set in a row. Winning the race to 15, Utah carried a three-point run to take a 16-9 lead, seeing kills from
Lauren Jardine and
Kamryn Gibadlo. The Utes saw an nine-point differential, leading 21-12, coming off the
Ashley West kill and
Isabelle Marco ace. Utah took advantage of back-to-back errors by the Northeastern attack to help complete the second set win, 25-16.
Â
In the third set, Northeastern kept the battle close throughout the early stages, as the Utes maintained a two-point lead, 10-8. Utah found some separation, taking advantage of the Northeastern mistakes, while a whole mix of Utes provided kills to extend the lead, 20-13.
Levani Key-Powell came alive in the late stages of the match putting down five of Utah's final six kills to seal the sweep, as the set finished, 25-17.
