Utah Drops to Ole Miss at ITA Kickoff Weekend

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The University of Utah women's tennis team faced a tough battle in their first matchup of the ITA Kickoff Weekend, falling 4-3 to Ole Miss in a close match.
DOUBLES ACTION
The Utes battled hard in doubles but were unable to claim the opening point. On the No. 1 court, Sara Akid and Emma Valletta battled but fell 6-3 to the Rebel pair of Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisová. At the No. 3 spot, Kaila Barksdale and Hayley Roberts also faced tough competition, dropping their match to Andrea Nova and Lucie Petruzelova with a 4-3 score.
The No. 2 match between Utah's Emma Kamper and Dylan Lolofie and Ole Miss' Rachel Krzyzak and Brooklyn Olson was tightly contested but left unfinished at 5-5.
SINGLES COMPETITION
Ole Miss took the first singles point as Kareisová defeated Utah's Akid 6-2, 6-2 on court two. Valletta earned Utah's first win of the match, defeating Emma Kette 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4. Lolofie fell to Krzyzak 6-2, 6-3 on court five, but Kamper pulled through with a 6-1, 7-6 (6) win over Petruzelova on court one.
Barksdale evened the match at 3-3 with a 6-0, 7-6 (3) victory over Leclercq-Ficher on court three. The match came down to court six where Roberts battled into a full three sets but fell to Nova 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-1 to give the overall win to Ole Miss.

The Utes will play tomorrow against Stanford or Memphis at 11 a.m.
