PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Utah women's tennis program wrapped up competition at the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a match against Memphis, falling to the Tigers 5-2.
DOUBLES
The Utes fought hard in doubles, starting with Emma Kamper and Dylan Lolofie pushing Memphis' Sofia Mykhailets and Alyssa Richter in a close 6-4 match on court No. 2. On court No. 3, Kaila Barksdale and Hayley Roberts battled but ultimately fell 6-4 to Alice Amendola and Clemence Thouard, giving Memphis the doubles point. Meanwhile, on court No. 1, Sara Akid and Emma Valletta were down 4-5 against Emily Meyer and Leonie Moeller when the match was left unfinished.
SINGLES
In singles play, the Utes earned two hard-fought wins. On court No. 2, Akid defeated Richter 6-3, 7-6 (4). Valletta followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Meyer on court No. 4. The remaining matches went to Memphis, who secured wins on courts No. 1, 3, 5, and 6 to close out the match.
NEXT UP
The Utes will return to the Eccles Tennis Center for three consecutive matches; a double header against Utah State and Idaho State (Feb. 7) and a rematch against Memphis on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
