Three schools of note are traveling to the Ute Natatorium to compete with Utah's divers: the University of Wisconsin Badgers, the UCLA Bruins and, long-time rival the BYU Cougars. On Friday, the men will compete on the 1m boards and the women will take over the 3m. On Saturday, they'll switch and the women will be on 1m springboards with the men diving on 3m.
"I'm really looking forward to this weekend," said head diving coach
Richard Marschner. "We have a really good opportunity to showcase our sport and our amazing team here at home. We're hoping for a great fan turnout and an energetic atmosphere. UCLA, Wisconsin and BYU are really good teams, so it'll be fun to go up against some of the best in the country and see how we stack up."
Last time on the boards
- Senior Holly Waxman took gold in prelims and silver in finals on both springboards at the Auburn Diving Invite.
- Waxman held the highest 12-dive score on both the one-meter and three-meter.
- Junior Kathryn Grant finished in fourth on 3m, finishing with a total of 301.50. On 1m, Grant earned 279.40, putting her in fifth-place.
- Freshman Callie Eaglestone took sixth on 1m finals and earned a top-12 finish on 3m.
- Junior Sydney Kowalski earned a spot in platform finals and finishing seventh after her five-dive list.
- Graduate Jesco Helling earned two top-seven finishes on the springboard event, before dominating the tower event and moving from a sixth-place seed to a silver medal.
"It's going to be a fun weekend and the team is ready to race," said head coach
Jonas Persson. "It will set us up really well for the remaining season, it will be good to see where people are and what we need to do. We're excited to get back to competing and just have a great time together as a team."
Previously in the pool
- Isabella Riso, Erin Palmer, Norah Hay and Lily Milner broke a 17-year-old record in the 400-freestyle relay, setting a new program high of 1:18.65.
- The Utes have earned 18 NCAA B-cuts, 14 on the men's side, four on the women's.
- At their midseason invitational, the Utah swimmers earned 98 personal bests and ten spots on the top-10 times list.
- Senior Erin Palmer set the second-fastest 50-free time in Utah history, coming in at 22.25.

Waxman's a Winner
Holly Waxman earned her first Big 12 weekly award after smashing the Auburn Diving Invite. Winning prelims on both springboards, but earning two silver medals and a top-12 spot in the platform finals, Waxman stood out. Beating competitors from Florida State, George Washington and Tennessee, she was the sole owner of the highest 12-dive list on both springboard events.
Lambert Lights Up
During midseason, freshman
Jones Lambert scratched his name into the Utah top-10 times record book with three different races. Finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle, fifth in the 200-free and fourth in the 1650-free, Lambert was the second-highest point-earner on Utah, accumulating 46 points.
Callie Calls for Celebration
After her performance at the Texas Diving Invitational, the freshman was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. In her first career invitational, the United Kingdom native earned a place in the 1m final competition, beating out competition from Texas, Stanford, Texas A&M and TCU for a top-12 finish. Her efforts added 12 points to the women's overall score, helping push them into a second-place finish.
Elias Tops Big 12
Petersen earned the first Big 12 weekly award for the swim and dive program after the junior's showing at the home opener against UNLV. Scoring 393.15 on just three dives, the Malmo, Sweden native easily topped the 1m event and came within one point of the school record on the same event. He followed that with a second victory on 3m, earning 376.73.
Looking Ahead
The swimmers and divers will stay busy, with the swim team heading to university of Denver for a dual meet on Jan. 17 and the dive program Golden State bound to compete in the Cal Diving Invite at University of California Berkley on Jan. 16-18.
